Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Naples House Water Damage Cleanup and Repair

Dustin Baron, an employee with the SERVPRO of Naples / Marco Island office, takes us through a private residence with mold and water damage. It started in a bathroom and then spread to the bedroom next to it.

Before Dustin and his fellow team members began restoration, they laid down and covered the tile and carpets they walked on with butcher paper and sealed it with painter’s tape. Covering prevents them from accidentally spreading the mold to other areas of the home, tracking in dirt, leaves, etc. from the outside, and damaging tile in the bathroom and kitchen.

Next, Dustin shows us where the water and mold came into the bedroom. They removed the doors and clothes from inside a closet and then cut away a section of the common wall. They easily repaired the leak, but since they did find mold, the remediation team wiped down every item and surface in the bedroom with an antimicrobial cleaner. Dustin and his team then used a HEPA-VAC (Commercial vacuum with a HEPA filter) on everything possible to trap and remove mold spores from the bedroom.

Once they finished, the remediation team blocked the bedroom from the bathroom and then isolated the rest of the house. Dustin explains that they did this to prevent accidentally re-contaminating the bedroom or inadvertently spreading mold spores to other parts of the house.

To ensure every surface possible was cleaned and decontaminated the team removed the glass, shower doors along with the door framing, shower head, faucets, and nozzle. They disinfected the surfaces behind them before being reattached.

Dustin and his team also removed the vanity top and the toilet. These items were temporarily relocated to prevent accidentally damaging them during the cleaning and decontamination process.

In both rooms, remediation actions included setting up an air scrubber and a dehumidifier. These devices cleaned the air and lowered the humidity to an average level to prevent further mold growth.

As the humidity decreases, Dustin and his team finish cleaning and decontaminating the bathroom. Once they have replaced the shower, vanity, and toilet, he makes certain the customer is happy. At that point, he can say we made it “Like it never even happened.”
